What to Expect During Our Process: Initial Consultation to Lifetime Support
We provide a full-service approach to prosthetics and orthotics, from first consultation to ongoing support. Our process focuses on creating the best possible solution for each patient, considering their goals and lifestyle.
Our first step is to schedule an initial consultation with one of our specialists. During this meeting, we will discuss your medical history, current condition, and goals for treatment. We will also take precise measurements and evaluate your physical capabilities to determine the best prosthetic or orthotic device.
Once we have gathered all the necessary information, we will work with you to select a device that meets your needs and preferences. We understand that choosing a prosthetic or orthotic can be overwhelming, which is why we prioritize clear communication and education throughout the process.
Your prosthetics should not only function well but also reflect your unique personality. Customizing your device can help boost your confidence and make you feel more at ease with your prosthetic. Our experienced team of prosthetists can work with you to incorporate custom artwork, patterns, or colors into your device.
Once your prosthetic is ready, we will schedule a fitting appointment. During this session, our team will guide you through donning and doffing (putting on and taking off) your device. We will also provide instructions on how to care for and maintain your prosthetic. If there are any issues when putting on your device, we will remeasure and make necessary adjustments to ensure a comfortable fit.
Our trained physical therapists offer fine and gross motor skill therapy to help you adjust to your new device. This specialized therapy will focus on building strength, coordination, and control in the muscles used for prosthetic use. Our goal is to help you become comfortable and proficient with your new device so you can easily navigate daily activities. We use advanced techniques and equipment to tailor each session to your needs.
As a child grows, their prosthetic socket may need to be resized or adjusted. At United Prosthetics, we offer pediatric fittings and resizing services to accommodate for the changing needs of growing children. Our team is specially trained to work with children and help them feel comfortable throughout the fitting process. We understand that children’s prosthetics require special care and attention, which is why we are dedicated to providing personalized solutions for our younger patients.
