In January of 2001 I had an operation on my right leg. One morning, during the recovery period, I went to get out of bed and I couldn’t walk. I went to the emergency room, where it was discovered that I had a blood clot. To complicate matters, five days later gangrene set in. I was moved to Mass General Hospital where my right leg was amputated above the knee.
I chose New England Sinai Hospital for my rehabilitation, and became affiliated with United Prosthetics through the amputee clinic. With my prostheses I am able to walk with the assistance of two canes, which allows me to maintain my independence.
Greig Martino and the crew at United have been superlative since I first became acquainted with them.
